Américain préparé or filet américain préparé is a typical Belgian dish. It is minced beef meat mixed with mayonnaise and seasoned.
It can be eaten as a spread or as a main course with a salad and French fries.
My father prepared the mayonnaise and decorated the Américain préparé with gherkins and pickled onions and some slices of boiled egg, as in the photo. I know, it's very 70's but the kids love it, even now.
- 200 g ground beef
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tsp mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- salt & pepper
put the ground beef in a large serving dish and season with salt and pepper, Worcestershire sauce and mustard
add 1 tbsp mayonnaise
check the seasoning and adjust if necessary
- Américain préparé is delicate meat that does not keep long: as it is ground, there is more surface area available for bacteria to grow. Ideally, you should eat it the same day or the next day. The phenomenon is slowed somewhat by mayonnaise since it completely coats the meat but I advise you not to leave the américain préparé more than 2 days in the fridge.
- Chopped onions and capers can also be added to the dish.
