Marzipan potatoes

Marzipan potatoes are usually prepared around Saint Nicholas (6 december). 

The balls are rolled from ordinary marzipan, then rolled in cocoa powder. 

A really yummy treat and very fun to make with the kids.

Servings 400 g


  • 200 g ground almonds
  • 200 g icing sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder


  1. beat the egg white
  2. mix with the ground almonds and icing sugar
  3. roll small balls of 1 cm (1/2 incin diameter
  4. place cocoa powder in a soup plate
  5. roll the marzipan balls in the cocoa powder

Recipe Notes

  • if the egg is small, the marzipan may be too dry. Add a small dash of water and mix again, until the proper consistency is obtained.
  • if your marzipan is too wet and soggy, wrap it in aluminum foil without completely closing it: the marzipan will dry out and will get the right consistency.
