Ostrich steak with pear sauce

The ostrich steak has a distinct flavor that does not appreciate everyone. It tastes a bit like horse steak but is very tender. 

Cook it just like a beef steak: start with high heat and lower the heat till to cook to desired cuisson.

  • 1 ostrich steak
  • 1 can pears in syrup or in juice
  • 200 ml cream
  • salt & pepper


  1. Cook the ostrich steak like a steak after you have peppered and salted it

  2. Take the meat out of the pan and set aside
  3. Quench the pan with a portion of the pear syrup or juice

  4. Add the cream, the rest of the pear syrup or juice, salt & pepper

  5. If necessary, thicken the sauce with corn flour

  6. Add the pears to the sauce and let them warm in the sauce
