Pound Cake

This pound cake recipe is from my grandmother on my father's side. This is the easiest recipe to remember, but also the most delicious: four ingredients in equal parts: flour, butter, eggs and sugar. 

It is the basis for all kinds of variations: cake with apples, pears, pineapple, chocolate...

  • 4 eggs
  • 250 g self-raising flour
  • 250 g butter
  • 250 g sugar



  1. Weigh the eggs
  2. Weigh the same weight in self-raising flour, butter and sugar
  3. Let the butter melt in a large bowl

  4. Add the flour and sugar and mix
  5. Add the whipped eggs and mix


  1. Butter the inside of a cake shape and sprinkle with flour so the cake does not stick

  2. Pour the cake mixture into the baking mold
  3. Preheat the oven for 180 minutes at 180 °C

  4. Put the cake in the oven
  5. Check for 10-15 minutes if the cake is well-cleaned and then reduce the temperature to 150 °C

  6. Leave for 30-45 min
  7. Check the cake is sufficiently baked with a knitting needle or a metal skewer: when no dough sticks to the metal, the cake is ready
